Haiti Relief
McDonough's Independent put their own PC Children's Fund Raising on hold and turned all the fundraising boxes over to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti relief. All the cashiers politely mentioned to customers about the fundraising and were pleasantly surprised by the compassion and the generousity of some. They saw quarters, loonies, toonies and even twenty dollar bills enter the boxes. Their program ran over a four week period. Head Office Loblaw Companies Limited agreed to match all donations and then the government matched that total. Loblaw Companies Limited have raised more than $400,000 for the Haiti Relief with many stores still to contribute.
The current priority in Haiti is to concentrate action on providing immediate relief support in the areas of shelter, health, protection, capacity building, water and sanitation, as well as preparing the Haitian Red Cross to respond to the upcoming hurricane season.
